KAYAK: Sandon River - 10-16km Grade Easy/Medium
It’s been a while since we paddled the Sandon River, which is a shame - many people rate it as one of the best waterways in the Northern Rivers. Some say it’s their favourite paddle.

We’ve timed this paddle to coincide with the morning high tide. So let’s meet at 9.00 and be ready to paddle by 9:30.
We will paddle from the clearing area shown. This is about a kilometre upstream from the camping ground, which will give us a bit of a jump on the tide. Look for about 6 cottages together on your left side and our spot will come up on your right just over 200 metres further on.
Please bring some morning tea with you to enjoy somewhere along the way. We will aim to have you back by around lunch time.
Likely distance more than 10 km (easy grade) up to 16 km or so (medium grade), depending on how we are all feeling.
Having driven there this past weekend we can say that the gravel road from Brooms Head to the national park entry is the best we’ve seen it for years. The exception is the causeway a few klms in. Take this at a crawl or you could seriously damage your car.
Once in the national park the road immediately deteriorates, but take it slowly and you will be fine.
Members register online just for themselves and check the chat room in case the paddle has to be deferred. Visitors contact the leader Winston on 0414 997 722.
